Ousmane Dembele celebrates his goal against Saint Etienne Ousmane Dembele celebrates his goal against Saint Etienne

Ousmane Dembele scored twice to move Paris Saint-Germain seven points clear at the Ligue 1 summit after beating Saint-Etienne 2-1 at the Parc des Princes on Sunday. (More Football News)

Dembele struck twice in 10 first-half minutes to maintain Luis Enrique's side's unbeaten start to the campaign, despite Zuriko Davitashvili's goal just after the hour-mark.

After a dominant start to proceedings, the hosts were ahead in the 13th minute when Dembele fired the ball beyond Gautier Larsonneur following a mazy run into the area.

The Parisiens were then handed the chance to double their advantage soon after when Achraf Hakimi's cross was handled by Leo Petrot.

"It is a great honour to be nominated for the FIH Player of the Year Award again," the Indian defender stated in a Hockey India release.

Referee Benoit Millot was forced to overturn his on-field decision following a VAR review, with Dembele stepping up to send the visiting goalkeeper the wrong way from 12 yards.

PSG thought they had gone further ahead when Bradley Barcola tucked the ball home, but the Frenchman was adjudged to have committed a foul during the build-up.

Barcola then squandered a glorious chance shortly after the break, with that missed opportunity ruthlessly punished by Davitashvili with an excellent free-kick past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Dembele had the chance to complete his hat-trick in the closing stages, but somehow fired his effort over the crossbar when one-on-one with Larsonneur.

Data Debrief: Dembele the difference

Many believed that PSG would struggle without talisman Kylian Mbappe following his move to Real Madrid, but Dembele has shown he has what it takes to lead Luis Enrique's side.

Dembele netted his 10th Ligue 1 goal this season, having only had a higher tally in a single season in the top five European league during his first with Rennes in 2015-16 (12).

It is the fourth time he has scored at least two goals in a top-flight game for PSG, something he had only achieved three times previously in the top five European leagues.

With Barcola (10) and now Dembele (10)22win, PSG are the third team in the top five European leagues to have two players with ten or more league goals this season, alongside Barcelona (Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha) and Brentford (Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa).
